Great Read: "Prosperity With A Purpose" By Mike Frank
As many of you may already know from our facebook page and previous newsletter, I headed down to New York City two weeks ago. Our purpose was two-fold. We were attending a conference,as well as using the opportunity to get the word out about Freedom Culture's first summer collection and the heart behind the Freedomize movement. During the conference we attended an afternoon session, entitled "The Culture Project". It featured successful individuals from varying careers and life paths. It was awesome to hear from Kelly Clark, (snowboarding half-pipe gold medalist), as well as a member of the US Military, an NBA player, nurse practitioner and a Hollywood actor. The individual, who's life lessons struck me the most however, was from a man on the panel by the name of Mike Frank. Mike's bio is extremely impressive (taken from his book):
" He has more than three decades of senior-level executive experience at several multi-national Fortune 500 Corporations: Mutual Of Omaha, General Mills, IZOD, PepsiCo, Frito-Lay, Taco Bell, Walt Disney Company, MFS Communications, and was a founder of Level 3 Communications."
While all of that is overwhelmingly impressive, what was more impressive is that he moved beyond that success and stepped away from what he called the "corporate track" in order to assist others in their entrepreneurial endeavors. He also began assisting non-profit organizations that reach out to broken, and addicted people in some of America's inner cities. My heart beat fast as he explained his journey to discovering, that prosperity without purpose is meaningless and no matter what the financial gain, it will ultimately leave you empty. He has written a book about this journey and entitled it "Prosperity with A Purpose". The lesson that spoke to me was that, wherever you are in your life, and whatever level of success you have achieved, it also comes with it a responsibility to apply to it a purpose greater than ourselves. I loved this book, so much that I read it in two evenings (between cleaning floors, diaper changes etc.). It felt like confirmation to me, that we're on to something with this "Freedomize Movement". Freedom Culture will never be just another brand. We exist to not only create stylish products, but to encourage and support a community of people that affect the culture so positively that sex trafficking becomes a distant memory. It is our intention that when our children's-children grow up, sex trafficking is something that they speak about with discgust and are baffled at how something like it could even exist. There was a quote in the book, from John Adams (the second President of the United States) that I'd heard before, but I wanted to share with you:
I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy.
My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce, and agriculture,
in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry and porcelain.
Mr. Frank, makes the point that beauty is worth fighting for. There is nothing more beautiful than seeing slaves set free, and in my my heart I can see a generation of those who never know what slavery is,.......only freedom. Together we can change culture, because we are the ones that create it. Let's create together and make history.
